2015 exhaust rattle

Postby red_russian1 » Wed Dec 09, 2015 4:53 pm

I drive a 2015 Ford Transit mid-height van with the EcoBoost for my employer. Within the 1st 1,000 miles I noticed an exhaust or engine rattle around 2k RPM when the engine is lugging (like starting from a stand still or accelerating out of a corner). The local Ford garage couldn't find any problems but I know for a fact that 2 of my fellow employees are also noticing the same issue. To me, it sounds like an exhaust or turbo rattle but haven't looked into it any further. I currently have 21k miles on it.

Also, has anyone had any problems with the engine surging at idle or the Line/Aux. jack for Sync inop? The Sync Aux. jack worked for a couple months but has since stopped connecting. I've tried different devices and aux. cables but nothing. I'll be having Winter tires installed next week (12-14-15) so I'd like to bring it up to the Ford garage when I bring it in.

Firstly a hello from the UK :)

Unfortunately the european version of the 2015 Transit doesn't share any engine/transmissions used in USA :(
We only get to see a 2.2 litre engine with a stick shift

So we can't help at all with the engine surging at idle.

Bluetooth; try erasing all previously connected items from both the vehicle and the phone and pair as though new/first time install.

The rattle/groan noise when pulling away from a standstill, may well be what we have experienced in the UK and only on certain models (albeit the previous generation) fitted with aircon.
We found that the plastic valve (that is vacuum operated) that shuts off the water flowing through the heater matrix, has been fitted in such a way, that it's pressing against the firewall.
This eventually wears through the sound deadening and starts rattling against the metal of the fire wall.

It's not easily seen, untill you pull the valve away from the fire wall to reveal it's been eating into the insulation material.

Let us know how you get on.
