Mk8 doors

Postby devonshire dave » Tue Jan 12, 2016 5:58 pm

Hello,

Does anyone else have any issues with the doors on the Mk8 vans? We have a 15plate one,new in May and we cannot shut the door now. This appears to be the same issue as the customs suffer from, but ours is the full fat transit.

We now cannot even shut the door, so it's having to spend the night in someone's else garage.

I was wondering if there is a recall by Ford on this, and as we are a national company operating in excess of 400 vans, I think this issue is going to crop up quite a lot. The wing has bent, and I guess the inner structure where the hinges bolt on is bending causing the issue.

Any help is much appreciated!

.
Pity you cannot get the Claycomo version.

No door issues there - although sometimes the seals are so tight you have to leave a window slightly open to get the door to close - air pressure ( as far as I know ).

Myself and a passenger have both had a door pulled out of our hands by the wind. Due to the appalling design of the door grab it was impossible to stop them before they hit the so called door stops accompanied by a sickening 'crunch'! After that the door was difficult to shut and when opened again it would hit the front wing immediately, making it impossible to use. Ford have undertaken both repairs under warranty which is good, but the dealer could not assure me it would not happen again. (I don't mean the wind ripping the door out of my hand of course) The hinges must be of a weak design or at least the bodywork around the hinges. I think they need a modification to the door retention bit or the addition of a 'strap' to prevent the door from damage if opened fully in a 'violent' manner!!!

The issue affects transits and customs. Get your dealer to look at it and they'll approach ford for approval to do it under warranty.

There are still issues with door catching wing after door has swung open, there are "upgrades" and long list of vans in for repair.
