Euro 6

Postby Clevelander » Mon Feb 01, 2016 4:07 pm

Hi

New to the forum and straight in with a question I'm afraid !

I order a new mk8 transit last week only to have the dealer call today and say he can only get them in euro 6 2litre .
After having trouble with my first off line mk7 I don't want to be a Guinea pig again .
I'm not a Petrol head so please be gentle with me ..

What's the pros and cons of the euro 6 ?

Thanks in advance for any help .

You would have to start filling with Adblue.

Thanks Damien
I'd not even heard of adblue until I just googled it .

I was curious as to wether euro 6 had any effect on service intervals and cost along with mpg .

Actually it does have an effect on service cost. As the oil for euro 6 is higher in price than the euro 5 oil. My minibus 2015 h3 l3 2.2 155bhp uses 1 full tank of adblue (21 litres) every 3000 miles approximately.

think i would take a punt on the 2 litre, it might use less adblue as its "designed" for euro6 & they may have sorted the gearing out as well

That much adblue seems excessive, average use is about 1liter per 1000 miles depending on vehicle usage...7 times average seems very high

Perhaps there having to flood the exhaust with adblue to get the emissions down ?

I'm pretty sure that all minibuses are using the same amount of adblue approximatelly. I think ford is using that much adblue to keep the dpf from filling up with soot. One thing i noticed is that every 2 days the vans does a regen, not your normal regen where white smoke comes out of the exhaut, just a routine regen to prevent the dpf from clogging up with soot.

From various sources adblue usage is between 4-6% of fuel used, so a 21ltr tank is only going to do 3,000 miles at 30mpg not the 1 liter per 1000 I found quoted previously.....

So my minibus is using the average consumption of adblue.

Yes it seems that way. 1% was quoted for a 180ps puma based engine in a Jaguar car.

my 155 l3h2 rwd uses the full tank every 3000 miles.

I only get 17.5 mpgs as well.

Any body getting better than this? Ive spoken to a guy who has a rwd 125 l3 h2 euro 5 (no adblue) and he boasts high mpgs into the 30's and excellent power. I have none of these things.

I've also got juddery accelerating often in most gears. 6th is useless. I can't break the 90mph barrier in any gear.

Ive given up on any help from dealer pretty much.

17.5mpg is way low, my 17 seat minibus is getting 21-22mpg in stop and go driving. (euro 6)

What do you mean by juddery acceleration? (vibration?)
