2017 Transit 350 New Engine Needed

Postby Dontmocktheafflicted » Tue Jun 30, 2020 9:16 pm

Looking for some input regarding one of our van fleet
Ford Transit 350 2000cc
First Registered : February 2017
Mileage : 45,000
Full Ford Service History
One Sensible Driver

The van had an oil and water leak 4 weeks ago, and was put
into our local Ford dealer (who service all of our vehicles)
A repair was carried out, and a bill presented for £800
One week later, the same symptoms showed up again (overheating),
and we had the van uplifted by Ford Assist, and taken to the Ford garage.
They installed a new thermostat, and to date the van has now been in for
8 days, and I’ve just been informed that it appears that there’s been an
engine failure, and a new engine is required.
I’ve still to be furnished with a quote for it, but I’m expecting the worst.
Is there anybody on the forum, who has had a similar problem, or can give
me some advice?

Hello, similar problem as you, Our van has done 60000 miles and stated over heating.Went into the garage to be told could be a head gasket or cracked head but the garage didn't really want to go any further as from previous experience said the engines were throw away and cant be repaired easily with any sort of guarantee. Decided to to look myself and soon found out why they didn't wan to fix it. All the injectors were seized into the head and broke getting them out,The head bolts were so tight and the fitting on them so shallow the tool slips out, These all had to have their heads drilled off. Once the head was off the injector nozzle and holder were removed. The head gasket has been leaking in a number of places but the head is damaged where its been leaking and there is no clearance from the face to the valves to skim the head. I now know why its a throw away engine. I cant believe Ford have designed this engine in such a way that it cant be repaired . Good luck in repairing your van

Hi
were the leaks into each other or to the outside of the engine? What did they do for your £800?

Yes mine is the adblue engine, Stripped it down to find the head gasket had been blowing between cylinder 1 and 2 and out off number 4 into the water jacket. Mine had only done 60000m miles. None of the injectors would come out complete so needed a new set,The head was badly marked/worn too where the gasket has been blowing and found out the head can not really be skimmed , Bit of a rubbish engine
