Side door holding open catch

Postby mcbutler » Sat Feb 06, 2021 1:05 pm

Hi all,

Hope you are all well out there in tranny land .....

So, my sliding side door slides really freely, a good thing you might think. But its so free that it even slides shut with the van on the level when its unloaded as the rear is a few inches higher! On any slope it slams like a trap and to be honest it has hurt me a couplke of times.
Is their any way to increase the 'grip' or 'tension' of the little catch on the bottom slider that is supposed to hold it open?.

Thanks chums :-)

That issue was addressed on the latter vans by the locking mechanism.

Only thing I can suggest is to remove the plate bit 2x10mm bolts I think and bend it a bit, maybe if it has worn a bit rounded it'll need filing or replacing. Otherwise you'll need to get creative maybe bolt a shoot bolt to the floor that goes through a hole in the side door inside or even a latch and loop bar.

What year is your van? I've just noticed this is in the mk8 section. I know the custom sliding door opens to the lock and can only be released when you pull the handle, I assumed that the mk8 can did also.
The mk7 only had a pressure lock.
