Air Con drain causing potential smell?

Postby cr33per » Sun Aug 01, 2021 6:34 pm

I've got an ongoing issue with a strange smell inside the cabin of my van (2014 Custom SWB) and I'm reasonably certain it's linked to the AC/vents system. I would describe it as a musty smell and it's most noticeable when the van is parked for any length of time. With the van on the move and the AC running, the smell eventually dissipates.

I've spent a LOT of time googling and trying various things but I'm at a bit of a loss with it. The general consensus online seems to point to mould/bacteria growing inside the system which is why I'm hoping to locate the drain for the AC pipe. Apparently this can become blocked and cause mould/bacteria to grow inside.

Having parked the van up with the AC on full, there is no trace of water running out from any drain's on to the floor, so where is it going?

Any advice on the drain location would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Sorry about the late reply on this one, I don't often get time to come on here these days unfortunately :(
If you haven't already found it the drain for the Air con is at the rear of the engine bay on the fire wall, it looks like an oblomg rubber plug with a hole in it, a good healthy aircon system should drain from this hole, if it appears not to be draining or damp in this area, try passing something plastic up this hole to see if there is a blockage.
Are you sure the A/c is operating?
Is there cold air comming from the vents, do you know the temperature?
Do you hear the fan & A/c pump clicking & running?

This is what I use to sanitise A/c systems https://www.amazon.co.uk/AllTrade-Direc ... 169&sr=8-8

seems very effective :)
