Mk8 460 tyre sizes

Postby johnporter11 » Mon Oct 25, 2021 1:47 pm

My 8-wheel has 195/75x16 all round. And of course all wheels are interchangeable.
I believe the normal 4-wheel models are 235/65x16 have different rims to mine, but are still 6.5" rim size.
The 235/65x16 tyres should have a diameter of 28" against my 27.5", but 9.3" width against my spindly 7.7".
Has anyone considered a change to 235/65x16 for the front wheels of their 460? I know the spare wouldn't then be correct, but for temporary use should be fine.

I am going to do exactly that on a Mk6. The problem is the 235 specifies a minimum rim width of 6.5", and the Mk8 has 6.0" rims fitted. I think you would get away with it though. Although the ABS might not like it as already said.

What about 215/65x16 tyres? 20mm wider than the 195, the Custom has these fitted as standard so they should be easy to find, and they are very close to the diameter of the 195/75 tyres? Here are some I fitted earlier for you to compare ;)

According to the 2015 brochure the dual wheel model has 6.5" rims. I still need to physically check my rims just to see.

How about 225 75 16 all round.

Expensive but the ride will be better.

235 65 16 give a hard ride imho.

Agreed, 75 aspect ratio would be the most comfortable. But 225/75 would mean a big difference in diameter and very probably affect ABS, given that at this stage I only want to change the front tyres.
I was thinking 225/65x16, which will give same diameter....

John

Whereabouts are you?

Thinking of changing mine to 245 75 16

So may have 4 235 75 16 going cheap.
