identifying a rattlingh noise on '64 plate L3H2

Hi Everyone,
I am hoping to get to the bottom of a audible rattling noise (mechanical rattle) which sometimes occurs when i start the van in the morning.
The van has done 200k miles but has always had the oil and filter changed every 6k miles. It is a very clean engine with no oil leaks and runs very quietly.
However, it still has the original clutch fitted!
I have just spent a stack of money : I have just had the front wishbones replaced, driveshafts replaced pkus a new battery and a new alternator fitted. Also had a new wiper motor! Its been one thing after another but still cheaper than buying a new van!! Best deal with the 'devil you know' is the old saying!
I was told by someone today that the rattle could be the dual mass flywheel? We have ruled out the crankshaft pulley has there is no lateral play (pulley was replaced 2 years ago), and there appears to be no play in the bearing of the new alternator. Timing chain was a thought but no noise during normal running. Oil light goes straight out when the engine starts.
Its been a mystery for weeks now as sometimes there is no rattle at all. However, tonight when I started the van, the rattle was there again but i did notice a slight change in the noise when I kept depressing the clutch pedal. Eventually the noise just fades away and the van is then noise free and fit for use all day long. I do nationwide driving and just uneasy taking the van out on long drives now.
Its a very odd problem! I just wondered if any of you chaps on here have had a similar experience and/or can advise me further on this problem?
Or will it be a case of gambling and seeing how my luck is and having the clutch done /flywheel exchanged?
Thanks chaps :)

DMF would be my best guess, as you seem to have eliminated the other suspects :?

Thanks for the reply.
I was wondering what sort of money it would be for a 3 piece clutch and the dual mass flywheel + fitting? Has anyone on here recently had this done?
Thanks again.

Not on a Transit, but I have had it done on a 2009 Mondeo, and a 2012 Focus, and they both cost about £800+, and in addition, the Focus needed a master cylinder which was another £100 odd.
Obviously, a bundle of cash can be saved by DIY, but my days of changing clutches are long gone :P
