Steel wheels Vs Alloy wheels weight

Postby ChallengeAdventures » Mon Mar 27, 2023 11:17 am

Hi all. I am trying to find accurate weight of wheels for my MK8 AWD 2020/21.

I am trying to lose a few kg and wonders if anyone know the true weight of a steel wheel and a ford alloy wheel?

I can't seem to find any info online.

Trying to see if a big enough difference would make it worthwhile.

Thanks

Thanks. I think the twins are little lighter/skinnier than the singles? Certainly the tyres are?

Thanks. The wheel weight is all I am trying to work out as my tyres are heavier than most everything else.
245 70 16 BFG KO2 which are just over 20kg on their own each.

Alloy wheel can be as low as 13kg for load rated ones from aftermarket suppliers but trying to get an idea what the standard single steel wheel weighs Vs the ford alloys.

Thanks.

With yours being a4x4 maybe not many on the forum you my have to try a tire company and have a it removed and weigh it while it’s off then have them refit it.
If you find you find a wheel supplier let me know where if I decide to get some for mine I have posted on the forum asking if anyone knows cheers

Thanks Dumper.

The wheels are the same as any of the other transits apart from the smaller rear twin wheels versions.

All the other transits are the same standard wheel.

I can easily weigh my spare and subtract the 20kg of my tyre, that's not a problem. I am more looking for info on what the ford alloys weigh on their own.

I have a supplier, Rougue alloy who say the lightest one they do is 13kg.

I was expecting the steel wheel to be a lot heavier for me the difference is not worth changing them hope you find something that works for you.

I don't think you'll find an alloy for the twin wheel rims in the UK.

I did find some when I was looking when I got the van thinking ahead that I might want to change the gvw and it was uk based company but I never saved who it was but couldn’t find it now.but as I was expecting the steels to be a lot heavier it’s not going to save a lot of weight compared to the expense and it will not make the van look any better.

I use the Bragan stainless trims. Love them.

If I remember, you put quite a large garage in it? I kept the original Ford trim in mine also, saw no reason to change it to wooden cladding!

The front half to the sliding door is original headlining but the bedroom is panelled out it has a front kitchen a bulkhead with a centre door to the bedroom that has a 6 foot bed each side then a second bulkhead with a small central door and a rear storage area which wouldn’t suit a family holiday for most people but for marshalling and car rallies and Fishing it’s perfect for us .
