Load Bay Lights

Postby Dave46049 » Mon Jun 23, 2025 2:13 pm

Hi Everyone!

Just put my deposit down on a MK8 2021 Transit which I'm slowing going to convert into a day van / camper.

With the MK8 transit - when I open either the rear doors or the side door the internal load bay lights come on - when I close the doors they shut off - is there anyway of installing a "switch" or override so I can control when the lights or on or off regardless of the door status?
Thanks

Got to remember they are running off the vans battery… you dont want to drain that battery off…

Iv disconnected my cargo lights, and put new lights in running off my leisure battery.

The only way i see you could do it is put an inline switch in, just trace back the wiring, but again. Not really the way to do it.

Unfortunately, it is not as easy as on older versions.
On newer models, there is no fuse dedicated solely to the rear lights; instead, it is shared with other accessories.
In addition, the cabin lights, which have dedicated wiring, also turn on with rear.
It even appears that the cargo compartment lights have two separate wiring systems for the right and left sides up to the cabin, if not from the light control module.

Either you dismantle all the plastic parts of the cabin to follow the wiring of the electrical system and then, perhaps, separate the light power supplies (doors open), or you need a Transit mk8/Custom specialist who has already dismantled one.
