SRW rear anti-roll bar retrofit

Postby Sam123 » Sun Nov 17, 2024 1:01 pm

Posting this up in case anyone else with a SRW RWD Mk8 is interested.

As far as I’m aware, none of the European SRW Mk8s came with a rear anti roll bar. Only the DRW vans came with it from factory.

Unfortunately, the DRW rear anti roll bar does not fit the SRW version (different shock mount spacings).

But in the US it was at least a dealer option on SRW, and think standard fit on 350+ weight ratings.

So I imported the antiroll bar from the US, using Fairwayfordpartsnet- CK4Z-5A772-D, at just over £200 inc shipping. Shout out to Fairwayfordpartsnet, great service, and the part was delivered to me in the UK in 4 working days.

All other parts, inc all bolts, drop links, rubber bushes, clamps. Etc are shared with the DRW version, so are readily available in the UK. From reading the US forums, I think that the threaded holes for attaching the drop link to the body are present on the jumbo/l4 like mine but not on the shorter bodies, but not 100% about that.

I highly recommend it, the van is so much more stable now on the motorway when lightly loaded, and corners much better.

Pictures attached, can’t figure out how to embed them in post. All part numbers are in photos, but as I say, everything but the bar is the same as the DRW version, so can order from UK dealer.

Not 100% sure on this but when I was looking for a bus to convert to a camper I looked at a 420 bus and it was single wheel and had a anti roll bar it was a L4 H3 probably a 12seat bus using the rear empty space for baggage the only difference to my 460 one row less of seats

That’s interesting. I’m sure at some point I saw a YT video showing a Lithuanian L4 SRW minibus which had the ARB, but when I went back to find it I couldn’t find any trace, I couldn’t find the correct ARB on eBay anywhere in Europe, and the UK Ford dealer couldn’t find any trace of it either.

Hello! I've been looking for arb to my camper too and it is very hard to find correct one from europe, and off course those part numbers in USA are diffferent. I got a part list from local dealer in here in Finland, and there is 3 different types of arb but even they can't tell wich one is correct for my van. Single rear wheel rwd 2015.
I have done some research with google and AI and i think that correct one could be part number KK31-5A771-BB, but I'm not sure. Can anyone help me with this? :D

@ Siltu, I can't remember part numbers now. I did loads of investigation at the time, and concluded that it just wasn't available in Europe. I accidentally bought a DRW RWD bar and a SRW FWD bar in the process, which was a waste of money. The 'Fairwayfordpartsnet' dealer that I used in the US were great though, and really quick. You can order online.

I did a similar job on a Ford Custom (none of the versions come with a rear anti-sway bar), installing one from a Tourneo Custom and rebuilding the missing mounting points on my vehicle.
The best thing I’ve done to the van.
However, after a couple of years, I also replaced the front one—again from a Tourneo Custom. Now the vehicle is not only stable in the rear but also much more balanced in the way it steers. I think it’s advisable, if you’re adding the rear bar where it wasn’t present, to also increase the diameter of the front bar.
