Transit 2.2 MK8 RWD Runaway - Story of a Runaway Diesel Puma Engine- Hints Tips Conclusion.
My transit Failed an Emissions Test, Seatbelt and ABS, Running like a Dream with only an occasional limp mode at 70mph restarted and back to normal this was actually the Warning Sign i Ignored BIG MISTAKE.
ABS was tone ring Rear, thought i would replace the Bearings At the Same time Not Sure what Bearings so Paid £170 at Ford Follingsby park Gateshead (Daylight Robbery) Searched the Internet as i now had the Part number Ford Transit Rear Wheel Bearing Kit 2013>Onwards £8.99 Ebay.
Took the Van Back For Retest Added Diesel oil additive and gave it a blast on Motorway, but as the van was Getting Tested it Took Off "RUNAWAY ENGINE" AD Blue light Came on as a result, Belching White Smoke They stopped it Through Stalling It., had to be pushed outside as it would not start after filling oil up, Outside Waiting to be Towed Home i Decided Foolishly To See if it would Bump Start to get it home Quicker, Took Off On the Second "Runaway" Huge Plumes of White Smoke Took 5 Mins To Stall it 3000RPM or more FRIGHTNING.
Got the van Home and Decided to Get The Engine Out Completely Stripped Down Looking At the Pistons they Looked Fine, Oil in all 4 cylinders overnight With Nothing Leaking AMAZING Good Start, Turbo was In Half Literally no Vanes were left, and there was a Gallon of oil in the oil Cooler, And some Turbo Metal Vanes, "Turbo was the Problem"
Yes and NO, Read on,
Inspecting the Air Intake "Van Has 40,000mls" it Was a Mess Totally Clogged it has a Boost Pressure Sensor Attatched Like Many other Sensors eg maf Sensor these sit in and go straight Through the Plastic Housing WRONG not the Boost Pressure Sensor, it sits in the housing and The hole goes off at 90degrees i could not find the Outlet Because Of so Much Crud TIP No1 if you have a boost pressure sensor fault first poke a flexi brush 90 degrees through the hole it may be Blocked, Anyway Egr Totall Blocked Scrappped as with the intake. . New Glowpugs, Air Intake Egr Valve
Cylinder Head Looked Good Cleaned new Valves, Reassembled engine to Spec New injector Copper Seals Timing Chain and timing.
Old Clutch plate was 6.2mm so New Clutch Dual Mass Flywheel, Thrust Bearing, for good Measure.
New Air Intake ,Turbo Intercooler pipes Etc New Tailpipe Silencer Quoted £800 Ford Follingsby park Gateshead Searched Ebay £208
Installing The Engine the Hoist kept Hitting the windscreen Scuttle Cracking it so i Bodged it, Sorted ??, sort of,
Engine in No Front end on Just the Bare Radiator so if Anything went Wrong I could Take it out again and Scrap it.
New Oil As van was on a Big Slope i went by the Book 10 ltrs WRONG, 6.5l Cranked Engine NO START, Persistent Code p2033 Exhaust gas Temperature Sensor Bank 1 sensor 2 Now Waiting On Order Arriving.
Easy start came to mind and Sure Enough It Fired UP some white smoke maybe Just Burning the Residue in Tailpipe Sounded Perfect took it Round the block and it Belched White Smoke in Limp Mode DAMN THE VAN.
I Thought i would Remove engine and Buy a Recon, Started to Drain The oil and low and behold as i looked there was a pool of crystal clear water at the Bottom of the oil "Cylinder Head Gone" White Smoke , Water in the oil Went to bed SICK.,,,,,
Woke up 4 in the morning Why was water in the oil and Crystal Clear, NO Oil in the filler Bowl????? i filled it with RED coolant??? Went to check the van RAINWATER ALL OVER ENGINE windscreen Scuttle!!! , Could it of got past the Injectors???? and into the oil
YES it DID,, Decided to replace 4 Injectors and Seals New Oil, Engine Started No Smoke Runs PERFECT Like shat off a Stick.
My Conclusion How it actually all Started
.INJECTORS 100% Failed Diluting Oil , Clogging Air Intake Egr Exhaust Etc , even the Adblue Injector,
Code p2033 Exhaust gas Temperature Sensor Bank 1 sensor 2 Engine over compensated Fuel Delivery Due to Faulty Injectors
Turbo Then Failed Completely due Lack Of Quality Oil ( Dilution) Definitely Diesel In The Oil as well.
Oil Then Ran Quite Easily Through Turbo to Iantercooler to Intake Manifold the rest is history.
Hope someone who has Boost Pressure Faults, Gas Temp Faults, Causing Limp Mode Can Gain some info. Because this is Really What I ignored. £2500.
And NEVER Get Parts From Ford Folingsby Park Gateshead.
