Evening guys. I have a 2016 MK8 Transit 350. I have installed an aftermarket Android stereo. It's only a Chinese one, so nothing expensive, which has a 9" screen. Anyway, back to the question at hand. I can't get the steering controls working. Been at it for 2 days now. It came with 2 wiring looms, one with CAN bus and one without. As far as I know and have been told I need to use the one without CAN bus as the van loom only has one connection. I have used the correct loom, but can't get the steering controls working. Tried programming the stereo with the steering lean but nothing will get it working. Do I need any extra wiring for it to work? Thanks for any info that can help.

Hi,

You're correct that you shouldn't be using the CANBUS harness - the steering wheel controls are electronically basic to say the least. I've attached the wiring diagram below.

Largely, the radio needs to send a voltage out either pin 8 or 20 at C0240A (that's the big connector for the radio head unit), and receive a lower voltage at the other pin, which essentially goes into an A2D convertor to figure out what to do.

Start by confirming that you're getting voltages on these pins relative to ground, not across the pins. Of the two voltages, you should see one change as you press the buttons. You can also find the wires in the steering cowling at the bottom left (C0218A), but the connector is best left alone, if I recall correctly, the airbag wiring goes through here as well!
