Starting problem after diesel filter

It’s a 2015 2.2 rwd tipper 125ps
While driving yesterday it came up on dashboard saying diesel filter blocked
So when I got home I climber underneath and unscrewed the nipple on the filter housing to drain some into a cup and see how bad it was and it was dirty water at the bottom and diesel on top
So I put it back to gather and started it and it cut out after a few seconds so I put a new filter in but I didn’t fill with diesel
And now I can’t get it started ,I’ve tryed towing it , I’ve tryed towing it with a injector cracked open and I’ve tryed the pressing the valve beside the injectors and there’s no diesel geting to it
I’ve tryed the ignition on and off 20 times
Is there a way to manually bleed it because I’m having no luck thanks

you should never tow start a 2.2

it can make the timing chain jump the sprocket

only tow whilst in gear
.. no clutch action, dropping into gear whilst rolling etc

i don't know if you've done the damage from this action

but if you haven't .. you are going to have to get rid of the water .. you don't know how much you have .. there may be loads more in the tank.

easy start may get it going enough to purge the system of what little there may be in the high pressure pump and rail

It hasn’t jumped chain I just had it fire up on deodorant through air pipe it hasn’t jumped tooth it just isn’t Geting diesel

It is airlocked badly is there anyway to manually bleed the system I really need the van on the road

Check the intank pump is running, ignition on and listen near the tank for a buzzing humming kind of sound.
If not check the pump fuse in engine bay fues box (red 10a fuse) and especially check the terminals for it as they go weak. Squeeze together with long nose pliers or pointy screwdriver.

If pumps working.
There's a "tyre" valve at the right side of the engine cover.
Take cap off, turn ignition on. hold a rag around it and press the center till fuel comes out.
Ignition off,
Ignition on,
wait 20-30seconds.
Then crank to start.


They will not fire with an injector cracked, it's a common rail system and won't let injectors fire till fuel rail pressure is at a minimum value.

Ps. Never fill filters with diesel, you're just introducing contaminants straight into your high pressure pump.

I didn’t fill the filter with diesel I put it in dry and I think that’s what’s caused this airlock
Ithere is a sound coming from the fuel cap when ignition is turned on for a few seconds
And the valve beside the injectors littrally has no pressure I’ve pressed it and nothing comes out no diesel no air
And the ignition on and off I’ve don that about 30 times and it’s just turning over now with no firing up
The only way it will fire is if I spray something in the air pipe. There was no problems before the filter change so it’s badly air locked is there a way to force diesel through

Firstly don't start getting defensive, we're here to help you AND others reading posts for solutions to similar problems, hence I added it as a "PS" and wasn't aimed at you directly since you stated you hadn't. It was a way of explaining why not to. Not because you had.
Forums particularly this one tend not to be as knee jerk in the replies as other social media based commenters tend to be.

But anywa.....
Don't have tik-slop so I've no idea what the video in the link is meant to reference.

Meanwhile....

The pump should run constantly as long as the ignition is on.
You won't feel anything coming out the valve till fuel is up there, it has to purge the lines and filter housing so it will take some time for fuel to come through.

It won't spray out but should have a decent flow once purged
Be patient and methodical, there's a whole lot more shite these things get upset and go in a huff about than older vans ever did.
These do not like being treated like an old TDDI Mk6 or tractor.

If your still struggling to get fuel up to the bleed valve, but intank pump is running then it may have a blockage in the suction or pipework between tank and filter housing.
Considering that you found water and gunk in the filter housing.
If in doubt, drop the filter off the housing, turn on ignition and see if fuel comes out of filter housing head, before refitting filter and bowl.

I’ve fitted a pump I bought from Amazon and after pumping for about 5 minutes I’ve got diesel to come up to the pipe but I still can’t get it to fire up it’s just turning over.
Thanks for the advice and help so far but is there anything I can do from here ?

At this point I'd say plug it in.

You need Forscan or another reputable diagnostics tool to check the basics.
Anything you do from now on you're just guessing and potentially loading the parts cannon.

At this point if you disconnect your clear pipe from the valve fitting circled in blue then turn the ignition on.
Are you getting any fuel coming out that pipe.

If yes.
Put it back onto it's proper connection and see if it starts.
Get it plugged in and check things like cam crank sync.
It Needs to see sync before it will allow it to start.
If no sync, it could be a sensor, wiring or jumped teeth on the cam sprockets.

Or it could be other wiring issues, or pump suction control valve, etc etc etc. there can be a number of things and they don't always show a fault on the dash.

If no.
Double check the intank pump is actually still working.
Drop tank and check for debris in the tank, pump and lines.

Thanks for geting back to me I just finally got it started I had to spray a tiny bit of deodorant in to the air pipe and once it fired up it chucked out lots of black smoke and cleared but now it’s working perfect off the key I think it was just full off air . Thanks for the help everyone
