P0113 IAT11 High input, Dash showing -40, high idle

Postby roperman » Thu Feb 05, 2026 1:50 pm

Hi,

Got a weird issue with a Transit 2.2 Minibus, it keeps putting EML on for P0113 high input, also the idle sits at 1000rpm and won't go lower, and the dash is showing outside temp of -40.

I believe it is related to the temp sensor in the MAF sensor, however I can't seem to get to the bottom of it. I've tried a known good maf sensor, I've repaired the wiring and checked it all, seems fine.
I've also swapped the green temp sensor at the intercooler outlet, and checked the outside air temp behind the grill. All seem good.

On forscan I can watch the temp of IAT11, and the voltage on IATS, and all seem normal (see pics). The green one is also reading fine, as is the outside air temp. If I read the temperature off the instrument cluster through forscan, it is showing the correct temperature, but on the display on the dash it still shows -40.

MAF sensor flow is also reading fine. I've tried watching the scope output of IAT11 and it reads as expected with no big spikes.

Anyone else had this, and know what the issue might be?

Any device that is at minus 40 is in a fault state .. broken, disconnected or wiring fault to it ... or is not used on the transit

and a reading of minus 40 if relevant will put the engine into cold start conditions (like choke) so more RPM, if the PCM depends on info from that sensor

and you've far too many pids .. especially for the EGR to make sense out of them, you need to work out which ones are relevant .. how you do that ,.. i don't know

all the best.mark

what year is the van ? temp on dash as far as I'm aware is from sensor on the outside of the o/s/f chassis leg (unless they've changed it with newer models , does yours have this and have you checked its wiring and tried another sensor??

I'd be going with Andz's suggestions rather than getting overly panicked about lots of different things all together.

OAT sensors used to be famous for corrosion in the sensor itself, for being an external unit they seemed to like corroding for fun.

But looking at your screenshot if you've got a selection of things showing unexpected results I'd be looking at the common factors between them.
Firstly a fuse?
Secondly common wiring.

When I get an operator calling me with a random fault, my first question is "have you checked the fuses?"
If the answer is yes.
I tell them to "go check the fuses again, properly!"
I've lost count of the phonecalls I don't receive telling me they found a blown fuse

does the outside temp eventually return to normal and then go back -40 when ever the van is restarted ? if so i had this and it was the wiring loom across to of engine had rubbed through from rubber cover on top of engine, ford repaired the loom and cut abit of rubber cover away to stop it happening again

Gday

Curious as to what yours was in the end as I also are seeing -40 in +30 heat :)

I appear to have one of these on the outside grill which "i think" is an outside tempertature so a potential suspect. I also notice "check Fuses" in posts so better do that also, thanks

Your OAT on a Mk7 (by the looks of the grill that's what you've got) is inside the right hand front wheel arch clipped to the classy leg.

What's in your picture is an Anderson plug.
Remote quick connect power supply connector and is aftermarket.
Pull the black cap off you'll have two flat ish terminals. They are Asymmetric so another identical plug will fit into it to either receive power or supply power.
They normally come in 3 different amp ratings and ar not colour cross compatible.
Meaning a plug that looks the same but is a different colour won't fit. https://www.google.com/search?client=fi ... 0yellow%20
