Hi all, just to say.... I have also got a new battery. Learned a little bit about battery type being important for cranking speed on these vans. Got a 110 type at 85 amps if I remember correctly. Cranks over for ever nice and fast. Obviously needed the battery monitoring system (bms) reset to keep it all good.

Just got in van, did the flick thing for glow plugs. 1 degree Celsius today, no go. Went and did something else for 5 minutes. Glow light stayed on for a tad longer and it fired up normally.

Talk about frustrating.

When time allows I'll pull the glow plugs out and test. Maybe working intermittently or covered in gunk from when the injectors played up??

Does anyone know if the control module on these gets "feedback" from the plugs and adjusts the time they glow accordingly?

I might also pull the starter off as I read something about them getting clogged up, although it does seem to turn over ok. What I read suggested that they can seem to turn over fast enough but they aren't quite going fast enough.

If anyone knows what the cranking speed should be, please shout up?

Thanks
Paul

 I read that as "please shut up"so I wasn't going to say anything :P

But I can confirm that if the starter isn't turning fully fast, a diesel will struggle to start, due to lack of compression, and also that a slower moving starter robs battery volts from the various modules (PCM, BCM etc) which then won't activate below a certain voltage (10v IIRC)

Not said yet ..water in the diesel ...but i hear, its got some device on the filter to tell you that.

Compression test to prove the theory of porous valves.

Run out of ideas for you both ..that's the brownyfamily and you.

The rest is probably down to you getting to know forscan very well and to do some in depth diagnostics.

here is someone with ecoblue 2.0, not getting the problem answered , but he explains a bit on how to read the forscan live data results ..that may help a bit ..perhaps

Thanks Mark, I'll take a look.

Just had another new thing happen.....

Turned the ignition to crank, and it did but didn't start.
Turned it off, turned it to position 2 for the glow plugs and it just cranked over without turning the ignition to the cranking position...
Obviously now I'm suspecting a dodgy ignition switch as that's just crazy for it to crank on its own in position 2!

Anybody got any experience of similar on these custom vans?

Faulty ignition switch is a fairly common problem, and is an easy fix 8)

thanks you Mark, ill try the pistonhead thing, the only thing i can thing that would make a noid light stuggle to flash correctly is bad battery's , bad earth, bad ecu, bad timing, bad wiring, bad starter, bad crank sensor, I might go back into the ecu diagnostic to see if the ecu is having to make much of a combustion correction, I believe this shouldn't be more than 0.25

I just keep thinking timing issues

Please contuine to help :-#0

PAUL, i take you have carried out a noid light test?

Sorry, I don't know how to do that. Not had time to read all about it yet....

Is the common thread here that everybody started with these issues on or around the time our injectors went faulty?

Nothing else on my van has been apart, replaced, or fixed. Just normal servicing.

Thanks

My father has the same problem with a transit from 2021, at only 18.233km (11.329miles) it start from 4-5 key! we took it to dealership, after allmost 3 month of investigation the verdict was: small block cracked and piston ring destroyed. They put a new motor, we had warranty!
