Help with buying a Mk8 Transit

Postby George 3G » Thu Mar 20, 2014 10:36 am

Hi all,

I've been given the role to source a new company van. We currently have a 2008 Transit and 2008 VW Crafter and are looking to replace one of them with the new transit. I've looked on the Ford website but they don't have the configurator on there yet.

I could do with some help building my required specification as well as advise on dealer discount or if I can source the van through another retailer than ford?

My chassis spec is as follows:

MK8 Transit
Long wheel base
Extended Frame
Dropside flatbed
Most powerful engine available (I believe this is the 155ps?)

Are there still roof height options for a none panel van?

Thanks

George

You're looking for a 350 L4 (ELWB) Dropside. Yes, the 155PS is the most powerful engine in the range, and no; you can't get the cab with a different roof height and never have been able to. If you PM me your email address I can sort you out with a quote. Don't think I have any 155PS in pipeline though so it may have to be a factory order. Probably looking at May/June for delivery.

When are they expecting this new transit to be on the market. My local dealer seemed pretty clueless when I asked.

Our first ones are due to arrive in the next couple of weeks. I'd imagine most dealers will be similar.

Ah ok thanks for that. Is that for customers that have ordered them to spec?

It's mostly just stuff we've specced up for stock but some are sold olders. Anything specific we'd have to order now and prob wouldn't see it until May. Unless I can amend something to your spec that's already in pipeline.

Thanks Mark, PM Sent

What will the payload be on a 350 L4 (ELWB) Dropside? It's something I need to look at and compare different variations with as we are always very close to hitting the limit on our current van. I guess if we didn't have an extended frame we would gain a small amount?

Also is 4wd an option on this spec?

Thanks

I have been looking at the specifications , and I may have missed something, but I can only find medium and long wheelbase models, the ELWB model just appears to have a longer load area but not a longer wheelbase. L3 and L4 appear to have the same wheelbase to me. Ford have mixed up load length and wheelbase size.

I saw a L4 (JUMBO?) van & that rather a lot of rear overhang ala Iveco Daily  so i think the wheelbase is the same

Wheelbase on LWB and Jumbo have always been the same. The Jumbo just has a longer body, so there's more of an overhang at the rear wheels.

Is there going to be a swb version off this transit or will it just be the customs?

The custom is the replacement for the swb Transit

The range begins at L2 (MWB). Although there will be an L1 (SWB) Chassis Cab available.
