Smart charge problems

Postby urbtree » Thu Mar 10, 2016 11:12 am

I run a mobile tyre company and ever since I'v had my mk8 I've had problems running the inverter in it.

If I have smart charge plugged in it keeps overpowering my inverter and it goes into over volt protection mode and cuts power to my machines.

If I unplug the small single wire plug, Battery light illuminates and I don't get enough power through to the inverter (around 13v and drops to -10v underload)

as you can imagine this is causing real problems for me.

I'm going to try swapping the marine battery I have with a silver one as recommended by ford and see if this helps.
I suspect the single wire plug may just be cutting out the sensor and not the smart charge system itself

I've read about the 3 pin plug but can't find it and not sure if its one of the other wires to the alt (its a bit awkward to get at so I want to be sure I'm doing the right bit)

TIA
Mike

That's possibly due to ecu controlling charge... you almost want second independent alternator just to run yer gear in back ...
2.9i 24v cosworth v6 LSD now fitted and quad pipes out back

If you look on the custom page, jasonx has found a possible solution to change smart charging to conventional charging it may be applicable to the MK 8
