Too slow!!

Postby msb1989 » Tue Apr 12, 2016 9:45 pm

Just got my mk8 jumbo on 16 plate yesterday. It's Also 100bhp - same as the mk7 that I just gave up.

My problem is that it is extremely slow! It's brand new, had 30 miles on collection and now done around 350..

There is no speed limiter on but it feels like it's an old clapped out mk5, there's just no power at all, especially compared to my mk7.. Put the foot down even dropping gear and nothing really happens!! I can't overtake anything as it simply doesn't get going.

There's no lights on dash so don't think it's limp mode so fault in engine or electronically restricted somehow??

Thanks in advance!!

I think ford is lying in the hp numbers, my dad's 115 bhp mk7 flies compared to my 155 bhp mk8 , both the heaviest minibuses available. Mk8's have higher rear end ratios but they are not high enough to justify the massive power difference.

It is definitely a damn site slower than the mk7 - I want my old mk7 back!!!!

It's booked in to Ford in a few weeks time to make sure there's no problems with it, but reading through this forum it seems like it's a common problem unfortunately :(

The only way we are gonna know whats really happening with these vans is if someone takes one to a dyno shop and tests there power output and sees how much hp they are putting down. Only then we will know if they really are producing as much as they are supposed to be producing.

I've been thinking of a new van myself and although I think the new transit looks ugly but thought it would still be a good van but I've not heard many good reports so far. Think I may look at the merc see what they are like.

So we're all doomed basically!! Just don't be so keen to let your boss upgrade the fleet, stick with the mk7s!

On another note does anyone know what coloured wire the reverse lights are @ the rear cluster loom?

...& how to remove the interior light in the cab? I pulled at the surrounding which moves but wouldn't come away...

Out of interest what MPG are you getting from your merc 313. I've heard the new transits giving 20-25 mpg
