Balding tyres

Postby joiner12007 » Sun Jul 08, 2018 10:23 pm

Hi all,

I've got a 15 plate L3 H2 T350 trend fully racked out with 23k on the clock and running at around 3100kg most of the time.

I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the two rear tyres are as bald as a porn star on the fitst 30-35mm on the inner edge of the tyre.

The rest of the tyre is fine and fully treaded.

When I step back and look the wheels do seem to be leaning in, has anybody else encounteted this.

I've never had this problem before my old mk7 ran at the same weight and never wore tyres like this.

Cheers

Kev

i seem to be having this issue with all 4 tyres, worse on the front, when my van went in for service I asked them to check the tracking , they said they did 4 wheel tracking and it was spot on, but my tyres are wearing so uneven, the front ones are only lasting 30,000 miles before they are dangerous but the inside of the tyres still have good tread, the back ones look polished on the outer edges , van is a l4 trend

I have almost the same problem, the front passenger side tire is lasting only 15000 miles, it gets bald on the outside edge/corner quickly.
The problem is that the camber isn't adjustable. I have an L4 H3 18 seat minibus.

Michelins sorted it on my Vito, plus run high pressures, stops the tyre tucking under,

15 reg H2L2 155 new shape, FWD on 57k - rear tyres original and look like they will do 80k - can't believe it really - must have 5 mm left easy - fronts changed at 37k - don't carry a lot of weight either

16 reg L3H3 FWD 155. 15k miles. Rears as new - fronts trashed.

Did speak to my stealer about it. Guess what? "Tires not waranteed mate." :-/

Tires not warranted, tell him "ok, but can i have a front toe/camber checked? As i seem to have an issue with my steering" ;)

Would you believe I asked them that and they told me they could but not under warranty, as wheel alignment problems can be caused by e.g. hitting potholes/bumps! :x

So I went to another garage and got it checked, and they said it was OK.

Just got my fronts changed at 16k. I aksed the garage and they said they should have lasted 20-25k depending on driving.

Why shouldn't i complain? On my dad's mk'7 the fronts last at least 40k miles and we both drive the same routes.

I had the same issue and I asked the local tyre depot about it. He suggested going to ten ply tyre as the OE ones were 8 ply and the cheap chinese things he put on are on the same mileage as the Michelins but are wearing evenly and still have good tread
