Is there a way to override the hill start assist?

Postby petrolhead_rich » Fri Aug 24, 2018 9:16 pm

So I know theres a few members on here who know transits like the back of their hand, so heres my thinking;

The hill start assist is driven by the ABS pump presumably, is there a nice easy 12v signal going into it to activate it? What I'm thinking is using it as an additional immobilisation feature, to stop the van getting nicked, wire a switch in so before you turn the engine off, you flick the switch and it holds the hill start assist on.

Basically does anyone have a wiring diagram for the ABS pump? :)

Presently I don’t think it’s a good idea if parked up with pressure in the system may have the possibility of causing a fluid leak even if it can be done

Does't seem a good idea, solenoid is only good to be energized for a few seconds, leaving it for a few hours energized will surely burn the solenoid in the abs pump very quick.

The abs pump will most likely be under actuation when the feature is active so you'll possibly flatten the battery or more likely it'll free off after so long, may even wear the seals out as I think it'll be under high pressure, not sure the brakes should be applied too long.

If you want it to be nearly fool proof, secure the obd port and disconnect the drivers door barrel inside so it won't work. You can fit a key switch under the bonnet somewhere that disconnects the engine run relay too.

You can also fit secret hidden switches etc.

Basically just add things that aren't common knowledge or mass produced.

After that if they want the van that much then they'll drag it into a wagon or something :shock: in which case you'll really need to get creative!.
