Noisy when cold

Postby berkshireblue » Tue Mar 26, 2019 9:44 pm

Transit 2.2 TDCI 2015, noisy on start up until temp gauge gets up to half way. Ive found that if I drive an hour or so later its a lot quieter ( sounds tinnier than my old mk7 and definitely slower, both 100hp). Any ideas on cold start up are they all like this????

Read the fault codes and if nothing amiss, and your using good fuel.
Update pcm, then carry out injector pilot correction learn.

My ford IDS guy says he doesn’t know of injectors learn on mk8. Only when new ones are fitted.
It's always broken! Getting bored of trying to fix it!!!

Different injection system on the 2.2 doesnt need the injectors coded. Both of my 2.2's are noisy when cold.....was told they are all like that.....no idea why

Injectors are coded, whether 2.2,2.4 or the new 2.0.
Only mk6 tdci were coded, but every transit injector since is coded.
Correction factor needs entering in pcm, when fitting new,or new to vehicle injectors.

Pilot correction learn is something completely different.
It can be done on mk7 2.2 / 2.4 puma,mk7 stage 5,custom and mk8.
Reduces if not cures diesel knock from cold, stalling and other running concerns.
Whether non-ford diag machines have this ability,I'm not sure.
Obviously fuel quality, filter, and pressure are critical too.

Frag. Where would my guy look on the ids unit? As he claims it’s no longer an option. Cheers.

Using fords online diagnostics (etis ids/symptom based diagnostic)
There is a specific routine for the stage 5,that revs the vehicle up and back to idle while stood, whilst learning the injector pilot delivery, takes about 20/30 mins.
Similar to doing pilot correction on a stage 4.

If it's available in your version of ids,it's under
Powertrain,
Service Functions,
Minimum fuel mass adaption.

If not, clear the high pressure fuel or injector learn values,it will do a fast adaption itself on the next 'drive cycle'
(Which is usually from cold,to above 70 degrees)
