MK8 AWD - suspension/wheel upgrades

Postby DeeB » Tue Apr 02, 2019 5:36 am

Hi All.

Newbie here who has just purchased a MK8 AWD... to convert into an off-grid motorhome.

I'd like to lift it slightly and upgrade the springs to cater for the extra weight. I've found upgraded leaf springs for the rear, but nothing for he front. Also, I'm at a complete loss to find any lift kits, so does anyone know a DIY way to get an extra inch or two? Don't want to cock around with the geometry too much if I can help it.

Also - has anyone fitted slightly bigger (wider or higher) wheels - and whats it like for fouling the arches? Looking at slightly wider wheels to help offset the increased centre of gravity, and (if possible) slightly bigger wheels just to fit the 'off-road' look.

Cheers folks.

Have you looked at some of the Van Compass stuff to get an idea - it seems expensive and for FWD/RWD but cant be too differant?

,Hello,
I have mounted on my AWD campervan the BF Goodrich All Terrain KO2 225/75 R16. They mount without any modification including the spare wheel.
On the rear axle I installed air suspension (VB airsuspension).
Now I'm looking for springs to be mounted on the front.

I enclose some other links that can be useful: https://faroutride.com/ford-transit-lar ... s-upgrade/ ; https://moreysintransit.com/larger-tires-ford-transit/ ; https://agileoffroad.com/product/foes-f ... d-transit/ ; https://www.extremfahrzeuge.com/transit-4x4/
it is however necessary to check the compatibility of the contents of the links with the AWD model.
