Throttle Position Sensor 93% constant

Postby LondonYank » Thu Apr 18, 2019 9:11 pm

Today I noticed that the OBD scanner is reporting that the Throttle Position is constant at 93%. Is that normal??

Whereabouts is the TP sensor located? Just in case it needs replacing or diagnostics?

Thanks for you help.

It is the throttle pedal. It has multiple sensors, make sure that you can read and see them all and that they all raise and lower as they should. If it can't read a sensor or it is missing then it'll just show a random constant figure.

The mk7 has 3 sensors in the throttle and they showed a green. Bars that moved when you pressed the pedal (in ids).
If the van is running fine then it may not be a concern.

The van is throwing the dreaded P00BD MAF circuit fault. I've already had the MAF and Intercooler air temp sensor replaced and inspected for damaged or leaks. It all checks out but the code still gets presented so I've been taking things into my own hands to properly diagnose the problem which is when I noticed this issue with the TP sensor.

It makes sense that this could be the cause based on when the P00BD code is thrown. It consistently occurs when the van is up to speed on the motorway and the throttle is backed off for cruising. If you drive aggressively with heavy throttle it seems never to occur. So it seems to occur when actual throttle position is ~10-20% but the sensor is reporting 93%.

So what did you make out of this? My generic scanner reports the same - trottle position at 93 percent but could it be because it can not read all sensors?

How to read the 3 sensors? With forscan?

Did you find a solution to this problem, my 2013 2.2TDCI has exactly the same issue. I have tried two different car scanner apps on my phone to test and both showing TPS is stuck at 93%. I have error code P00BD and van goes into limp mode intermittently while cruising around 50-60mph. Mass Air Flow sensor looks to be reading okay while monitoring, but can sometimes feel the engine stutter, and RPM flickers around 100rpm while this happens. The analogue gauge doesn't pick up the RPM flickers but the live monitor does.

I will try and locate the TPS sensor tomorrow to test.

Thanks

Hi Craig,

Did you get a solution to the question of 93% stuck TPS output? Were you able to measure the sensor directly. I have the same issue and suspect a faulty TPS but would like to hear if you made any progress in fixing before investing in a replacement sensor.

Thanks,

Andy

I am having exactly the same problem with my 2013 2.2 TDCI FWD. Have checked out nearly everything else, but noticed TP is stuck at 94.1% - also have the dreaded P00BD MAF warning that comes on at higher speed when cruising off the throttle.

If I find a solution I will update this thread, but if anyone sees this in the meantime with a solution, feel free to chime in.

Re: Throttle valve not operating

Postby tonytransitcustom » Mon Sep 18, 2023 5:52 pm

Transit custom 2016 2.0 ecoblue throttle valve not operating - shows 100% permanently in Forscan live data;
My accelerator pedal sensors appear to be working OK - as read by live data in Forscan, but the Throttle valve shows no movement at all in live data and does not move physically (hoses removed to view) as it should when the pedal is moved.
The position sensor for the throttle valve appears to be working (verified by moving the throttle butterfly manually) and the correct display is shown in Forscan live data.
Anyone had any similar issues ? Any iseas?
Thanks in anticipation :(

Seems like the pedal is telling the pcm to move but the pcm isn't telling the throttle body to move. Can you try am actuator test in ids and see if it works like that?
