2016 van limp mode (P00BD code) Help needed please

Postby KevofCov » Mon Apr 22, 2019 9:22 pm

Hi all.

Van is a 2016 3.5ton LWB RWD Hi-top (non ad blue)

I’m getting a ‘service engine now’ message and now also the yellow engine symbol. At the same time its going into limp.
I’ve read the codes (this is the extent of my talent) and get P00BD
Any thoughts would be great. I fly in the morning so will have the whole week to contemplate what is waiting for me when I return…..

I had that problem and it was a pipe burst on the turbo

As said,
Likely a boost leak, the hose on n/s chafes thru on engine crossmember, follow it up from intercooler looking underneath.
Check intercooler for damage or holes, usually wherever there's a boost leak, there will be oil also.
Or get someone to rev it while you listen

If there are no boost leaks,
Most likely cause is the inlet air temp sensor in the intercooler,if you can find it's reading on diag machine it may be totally wrong, beware tho, there also a inlet air temp sensor in MAF sensor.
It's the IAT2 or charge air temp you need to check.

Many thanks gents – it was as you said. P00PB code and limp mode sorted. The problem is chassis rubbing through the intercooler hose. It will happen to all vans eventually….

To guide others this is the location of the hose and rubbing point. Check yours now. Mine went at 130,000 miles

This is the hose. Almost £100 (yes really) from Ford. I managed to get one for £30 on Fleabay
It is a very simple DIY repair with no surprises using only a flat blade screw driver. Unscrew the two jubilee clips and ease both ends off. The turbo one is fiddly but just needs patience. Cleanliness is vital. Anything left in the hose will go straight into you turbo….
Top tip. It will go into limp mode on a Saturday or Sunday when Ford are shut. Take the hose to your local tyre repair depot and ask them to glue a puncture repair patch over (not inside where it can be sucked into the turbo) the hole. It works. I’ve currently done 500 miles whilst I wait for the hose.

Another update. The replacement (used) hose when fitted was some distance from the chassis and will not rub. I'm guessing that there are two suppliers of these hoses to Ford, one is fine but the pther will give issues....

Mine is currently going into FORD now on the 15th for this exact same issue. What should I tell them to look out for cause don't think they really know where to start?

Hi Kieron
any mechanic will see the damp area on the hose and this will lead him to discover the rubbing. Very simple issue to diagnose and repair.
If its not raining get on your back and have a look using the photo above. Its obvious and easy to access to confirm for yourself.
Also welcome to the site :D
