Factory fitted security?

Postby thebarber » Sun Jun 09, 2019 12:56 pm

I'm looking for insurance quotes before I get the van, 2018 dciv l3h2, but don't know what security comes as standard.
Any ideas which box to tick?

Depends on the model and specification.

They have differing specs, depending on what was ordered from new.
The insurance companies should know what it had from the factory based on the reg no.

They all have at least a Cat 2 immobiliser, but as said, only certain models are fitted with a Cat 1 alarm.

You can check for an alarm by opening the drivers door with the key, and see if it goes off

As mentioned, Cat 2 immobiliser is standard.

However, no alarm as standard on 2018 Base or Trend Transit.

Options are 'Alarm - Perimeter' and 'Alarm - Thatcham Category 1'.

I always specify the Cat 1 alarm on factory orders.
However, buying from stock usually there is no alarm so we have one fitted, but it costs more than getting the factory one.

If I remember right my cat 1 alarm was £250 plus vat from the factory with a spare key. Which I thought was a good price

Picked van up last Saturday and well pleased with it, bulk heads out and ready for conversion.
Getting a lock fitted to the drivers door thus.
What alarms do peeps recommend or other security for that matter, I use a disk lock atm.
Cheers

Looks daunting to me that does.
I'm ok with the spanners on motor bikes but it ends there, electrickery I stay away from.
I'm more thinking of getting alarm etc.fitted, are they worthwhile?
Lad in the shop was talking about Ghost alarm.

We got a CAT1 alarm fitted at a local place, think it was a Cobra.
Cost about £350.
Works with the factory remote, so nearly as good as a factory one.
Only down side is that you can't deactivate the ultrasonic internal sensors easily (e.g. pet in the van), like you can on the factory one (integrated with the dash display and wheel buttons).
There's probably a way to do it, but I can't remember.

AFAIK, Ghost is an immobilser, so will help with OBD attacks to steal the vehicle.
A CAT1 alarm with sensors and battery backup siren is still a good idea if you don't want your stuff stolen out of the van.
