Radiator coolant flow direction?

Postby wvc » Wed Jun 19, 2019 6:11 pm

Hi,

How do I tell which is the inlet hose and which is the outlet hose for the radiator?

I'm installing a hydronic diesel heater on an MK8 Transit. The inlet and outlet are not so far apart vertically...

Thanks!

The inlet pipe to the heater radiator will come out of the engine somewhere near the thermostat housing so to get hot water before it opens the return will go back into the engine somewhere near the bottom hose just traces the one from the top of the engine not looked at my mk8 but that’s how the heater set up of every engine I’ve worked on is

Looked at this some more. Can't really tee into the radiator inlet since it's closed by the thermostat until up to temp.

Looks like many have teed into and from the cab heater hoses but that just seems really inefficient since the formed primary circuit won't go through the engine block.

Any pointers?

If you tee into heater hoses the water pump pumps it through the heater matrix that’s how ford set them up on BT vans the pump in the Eberspacher d5w pumps it round the engine when it is turned on then when you start the engine turn off Eberspacher and rely on van heater
