Front wheel bearings

Postby KevofCov » Thu Jun 27, 2019 9:22 pm

I’ve tried a search but no joy. Van is 2016 LWB 2.2ltr single rear wheel
Are Mk7 and Mk8 front wheel bearing the same?
Many thanks

Bugger.
I was hoping to do it again with my Mk7 Haynes manual. Theres no sign of a Mk 8 Haynes so does anybody have any ideas about getting info on how to do it?
cheers Kevin

This is how i do it- wheel off, hub nut cracked loose and ran to the end of the thread, leave it on and tap with a soft hammer to free off drive shaft splines(if it has front shafts). Crack loose 13mm bolts but leave in finger tight, remove 50 torx bolts through the hub. If the discs are being replaced then hit the back of the disc and it just falls off, just be mindfull of the abs sensor. If discs need to be saved then a large chisel between the disc and ball joint and a few taps with a hammer. Clean up surface and fit in reverse.

Thats great thanks for the guide

First problem is that there does not appear to be a hub nut......

Even easier, just start with the 13mm then the 50 torx. Unless you have it off for another reason the strut assy didnt need to come off :wink:

The pic is one I pinched. I've done a MK7 so my MK8 should be even easier. Thanks for your input. :D

Job done. Piece of cake. Clear the brakes out of the way and its just the 5 T50 torx bolts and its off. No suprises.
Only prob when the bolts are out was getting over the corrosion holding the bearing housing tight into the sus leg. I found that the way to do it is put the wheel back on but backwards (for more leverage) and lower the van down using your trolley jack. The weight of the van will pop the bearing housing out but it happens suddenly. Use plenty of axle stands to catch the van or you may die.
Ford wanted £250 for the bearing but I used these;

A fifth of the price and all seemed good when fitted
