Ply lining suggestions?

Postby thebarber » Tue Jul 09, 2019 8:11 am

As per title I'm wanting to line the rear of my van keeping as much volume as possible.
Any ideas how to attach ply without blocks showing proud of ply?
I'm thinking of battens top and bottom then screw ply.
Cheers

Here's a couple of pics the way I did the roof in mine. I bought long timber lengths for the battens to get a nice curve to the back of the cab.

And a couple of the floor. Again battens, then Cellotex insulation in between. Ply on top.

Cheers, it's more the sides I'm getting in a flustered about tho.
Probably end up using blocks and a thicker ply

I installed rivet nuts to the straight hole rows in the body at about 1/3 and 2/3 of the wall height. Then I made a template with thin ply that had holes exactly in the rivet nut positions. Next I lined the sides with 9 mm ply, one piece from top top bottom. Because the ply sheets were only 1220 wide, I could bolt a part of the template to the naked rivet nuts on the body, where there was no ply yet, and align the rest of the holes on top of the added ply. Drilled holes, countersunk them and installed bolts. Repeated the process. Finally secured the bottom and the top with self tapping screws. Came out quite nice, with the possibility of bolting stuff to the body through the ply.

We always use rivet nuts on the sides too.
It's a bit tricky to drill the wood in the right place, but it's otherwise neat and very secure.
