Check your bonnet hinge to avoid a P00BD fault code…..

Postby KevofCov » Mon Sep 30, 2019 9:32 pm

Van is a 2016 2.2ltr 350 RWD LWB.

My bonnet hinge gave me a P00BD fault code in the following way.
The o/s hinge touches the o/s rubber channel underneath the windscreen scuttle. The channel takes the rain water away from the scuttle to the o/s wing. Over time the hinge contact forms a permanent crease in the rubber channel. The rain water then never makes it to the o/s wing but instead its journey is cut short by 2”. It leaves the rubber channel and falls onto the air filter box.
Heavy rain eventually gets through to the airbox insides. The paper filter soaks up the rain like a sponge and turns to mush. The MAF sensor detects the sodden air and triggers a P00PB code.
New filter and dry everything out – happy days.

There was a recall on early mk8s regarding this,a modification to the 'snow pack' filter and it's cover,on top of main air filter.
The fitting of rain deflector, and there are two types of main air filter, the later, better one is rigid with lines of glue down its length.
Water ingress into filter housing is a big problem,as if air filter gets taken into turbo it usually damages the impeller blades.
