OBD-II Engine System Diagnostic Tool Recommendation

Can anybody recommend a scanner compatible with the Mk8? Ideally one of the twenty quid ones. I don't want to do anything highly technical with it just get a fault code for an intermittent problem (see other thread below). Thanks.
