Rear parking sensors 2018 mk8

Postby Crookie83 » Sun Jan 12, 2020 7:58 pm

I had a tow bar and metal step fitted the my mk8 transit however I'm having trouble now the the rear parking sensors. There are 4 sensors in total and the 2 inside sensors pick up the step, anyone know if these 2 sensors can be disabled in anyway leaving just the 2 outer sensors working?

Can they not be rotated or angled away from the tow bar :?:

I don't think so, they seem rigid in the rear bumper. Don't think there is anyway of moving them or repositionng them. Was thinking possibly disconnecting the ones in question but not sure if that will effect the other 2 sensors.

I’ve just followed a mk8 in town today with a big full width step on and the parking sensors wear in the step itself maybe you can get steps with holes in to fit them in or drill holes in to fit yours in probably have to extend the wiring
Just looked on van demons and the do them with then fitted

Just drill new holes in plastic bumper cover and reposition sensors further away from Tow bar....(stick a couple of grommets in original holes).......or do what I've done and buy a new bumper cover ...(I paid 36 quid for it from the bay.....removed from brand new van)......it came off a van without sensors so was 'blank.....drilled new holes for all 4 sensors.....

Hi,

Did you have any luck with the parking sensors? I'm in a similar boat with installing a back step. Trying to move the existing sensors into the step is possible but you would need an extension cable to extend the wiring loom so they can reach.
I've been unable to find this cable

If the tow bar is fitted correctly into the vans wiring and I think you can get plug & play. Then it shouldn’t be a problem. I had my tow bar fitted from new and even when I tow a trailer and reverse there is no problem with the parking sensors
