Hill hold

Postby Wesleymk8 » Sat Jan 18, 2020 12:29 am

My mk8 has all of a sudden stopped holding when setting off on a hill, does anyone know where the sensor is that detects if the van is on a hill or not? Thanks

I don't think the system has anything to do with whether the vehicle is on a hill or not.

I think the hill assist works by keeping the brakes on after the pedal is released if the clutch pedal is also depressed at the time (and possibly if the vehicle is also stationary). Then it automatically releases the brakes as the clutch is released.

Just a guess - and might be wrong.

Yup this was it!! I turned it off in the summer when towing a big trailer and totally forgot I’d done it. Easy fix for a change! Thanks

On my old mk7 with hill hold there was a light that came on when it was in operation but there doesn't appear to be one on my mk8, is it normal or has the bulb gone?

It's got everything to do with being on a hill mate, otherwise it just won't activate. It uses sensors to know when the vehicle is on an incline.
