Roof rack on my new mk8

Postby Howard » Sat Feb 08, 2020 5:19 pm

My old LWB H2 transit had gutters so I could evenly space out my three roof bars evenly. My new 19 plate L3 H2 has holes on the roof for the roof bar brackets to be screwed but weirdly they look neither spaced properly for three or four bars.

What's the best arrangement? Anyone got any pics of bar type roof racks on MK 8.vans?

Thanks. Any idea why they are spaced as they are? Seems nuts.

How do you have them set up? Two nearer the front?

In your opinion would four bars look better? My OCD makes it difficult to have them uneven!!!

I can’t say about the 4 bars as I’ve only got 3 and can’t remember if the bolts are there for the 4 bars on the L2.
Yes two nearer the front which are about 700mm apart, and the back to the middle bar is about 1000mm apart. I’ve also got a ladder bar roller which helps a lot as the van is higher. Unfortunately it is what it is as the bolts are in the roof.

Are the holes fixed in straight upright?
I'm looking to make my own rack out of Bosch Rexroth aluminium profile and trying to figure out how to fix to the van
