Fitting Transit custom seats in back of 350 RWD

Postby Digahole78 » Sat Nov 28, 2020 5:05 pm

Hello. Just wondering if anyone has fitted the triple transit custom seats (tourneo rear seats) in a 350 mk8? Its all looking a bit tricky for the middle seat due to what looks like an additional chassis rail above the prop shaft. Just wondering if anyone else has overcome this problem.
Many thanks for any help.

I haven't fitted the Tourneo seats, but the full size transit crew cab had both 3 and 4 seat rear bench options. I have the 4 seat option in my crew cab (2+2), which is mounted by 4 floor rails (no central rail, middle two rails are either side of centreline). I presume that the 3 seat option used the same rails. Note, I think that the chassis cab (pickup) crew cab seats are different to the panel van crew cab seats. Might be worth looking for Mk8 panel van crew cab seats.

Thanks for the reply Sam. I think I may have found a solution today. Due to all 3 seats having offset rails it looks like I can mount them if I place the near side seat on the offside, the offside bin the middle and the middle seat on the nearside. Bit of a jumble but in this configuration the seat rails all seem to miss the chassis rails and outriggers. Downside is that the middle seat (now on the nearside) has a tray back which would have been handy between my squabbling kids. Will post pics once I get a chance to install next weekend. They are really comfy seats so hopful it will work.

If the issue is getting access to a nut on the underside end of the bolt, you could perhaps try rivnuts. That way you would only need blind access from the top, so could have the bolt going into the chassis rail (depending on metal thickness). I don't see any particular safety issue with rivnuts if done correctly, that seems to be the standard fit on my crew cab.

I wouldn’t want to use rivnuts to hold seats into the floor in a accident their is a lot of force pulling on a seat mounting bolt .

Agree. Rivnuts are not a solution for seats. To get them signed off properly you need to have a minimum. 3mm thick spreader plate under the floor pan from what I have read online.

Are you leaving the bulkhead in?

Not very pleasant view for your three rear passengers!
