Ford transit 70 plate ABS and traction control

Postby iuian.hanu » Wed Dec 02, 2020 10:42 pm

Hi all,
I'm new here so please let me know if i'm not in the right place. Tow weeks ago i bought a brand new transit L2H2 and now (1000 miles on the clock) the ABS and traction control lights show up on the dashboard. I want to mention is still orange. My frustration and concern is that the same thing happened to a friend of mine and two weeks later his steering is hard and the two lights turned red (now i'm expecting to have the same steering problems with mine as well).
The Van is not safe to be driven but Ford still booked in end of this month.
My question is, did anyone else experience this problems and how did you manage to sort it with Ford. I need the van on the road in order to pay the lease and the insurance plus this is my only source of income.
Thank you,

I'm not really au fait with current consumer law on vehicles, but surely, if you have a two week old van which isn't safely driveable (it wouldn't pass an MOT with warning lights on the dash) do you not have the right to return it and demand a refund of moneys paid?

Or maybe it's the responsibility of your leasing company to get it sorted immediately?

Hopefully someone with more consumer knowledge will chip in and put us straight :)

hi buddy just read your post and felt compelled to write about my experience and hope it helps. ordered a new new transit on a 68 plate went to pick it up and it had a dent just behind drivers door fords offered to get a dent man out who couldnt fix it then offered to paint the van i said no way they then said i keep the van with the dent and they would give me a free service laughable really anyway i sought advice and there is a thing called the consumer act which basically says anything you buy should be fit for purpose from a box of matches to a bentley or in this case a transit i advised fhendy ford of this and they got me a new van.

hope this helps let me know how you get on

You're presumably referring to the Consumer Rights Act 2015?

That probably won't benefit the OP though, because it sounds like the OP bought the van as a trader, not as a consumer.

your correct i am referring to the consumer rights act. although i dont see on the op that the person says they are a trader also assuming he is having still buying the vehicle should cover him surely

The OP says "I need the van on the road in order to pay the lease and the insurance plus this is my only source of income.", from which it sounds like the van is being used for trade/business, from which it seems likely that the van was bought for trade/business.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 (CRA 2015), defines a consumer as: "“Consumer” means an individual acting for purposes that are wholly or mainly outside that individual’s trade, business, craft or profession.". Based on the above, as noted, it seems likely that the OP didn't buy the van as a consumer.

As the name suggests, the CRA 2015 applies only to business to consumer transactions. not to business to business transactions.

Would it be the responsibility of the leasing company then, Mike?

Yeah, I'd bung the problem back to them and ask them for a loaner while it's sorted? BUT, he says 'bought' at the beginning of his post and 'lease' at the end, so who knows.

Yes, some interaction would be nice, it saves wrong answers and speculation

Hi guys, thank you for all the answers. The van is a 4 years lease and it will be mine at the end.
Sorry for beying confusing. I'm still trying to find the name of the dealer as i sent an email to my broker and in the same time i'm in contact with Ford.

The van came one day later then supposed because of a sensor problem so very possible the dealer to know the problem

Sounds like you’re gonna pay for wanting to pay as little as possible. The broker won’t care, you have no dealer loyalty (to be fair you don’t get much when you buy direct, but you can go and yell at the salesman), and there’s no incentive for any dealer to help you out.

It’s crap but that’s what happens when you use brokers.
