Reverse Camera

Postby Garkinto » Sun Jan 10, 2021 12:44 pm

Hi all,

I've been thinking of getting a reverse camera for my mk8 2017 Transit.
Has anyone ever used the radio dash as the monitor?

I found this video >>

Would this system be available for European models?

I looked into this as well, and while I don’t know if this specific system that you share will work for European models (I suppose you could ask them?), I have seen videos on YouTube of people replacing the stock display with the larger sync 4 display from a Ford Focus which i believe can take a video feed from a reverse camera. They managed to get it to fit in the dash with an aftermarket part that holds the screen in the place.
All in all the whole system (when I priced it) came to about £300-400 in parts plus you had to take the dash apart and do the wiring (which you have to do anyway). Because of that I just bought a kit of eBay for £100 which worked just as fine and the screen is attached to the rear view mirror.

Cheers for that @ austieman . It's something I've been looking to get sorted for awhile now. All the new models have the cameras built in now, Ford had priced me approximately €700 to have installed.

I added a rear view camera and mounted the monitor in place of a rear view mirror, the unit shows the camera all the time which is really useful plus it records all the time. You will need an extension to reach from the rear doors to the cab.

I opted for aftermarket intergrated brake light camera and a 5.5" screen which I stuck to windscreen where mirror would be (mount allowed me to angle it towards driver). I spliced into reverse light cable in pillar by drivers seat. Brown and green wire I think. Works great and install was easy. Think whole system cost me no more than £70.
