Across the Pond Help!

Postby banza-8 » Tue Jun 08, 2021 5:45 am

Hi everyone,

I am from the US, so my van is a bit different. I was kindly referred to this topic by @altransit to this forum. I have a 2017 350XLT 3.5L Ecoboost, from what I have heard this is quite the sleeper...

Here is the list of things I need help with.

- I want to do an E85 conversion, I know I will need two new fuel pumps. I am using the XDI HFPF for the external one, and a Hellcat one for the internal one. One in the engine bay and one in the fuel tank. I also need new injectors, but I can't seem to find the CC rating on the originals. When going to E85 you need 30% cc per injector. The OEM injector number is BL3E-HB.

- Would some sort of EWG be worth it?

- I plan to do new spark plugs as well, to help match the new fuel system, any recommendations? I have heard good things about these!

Along with all of this comes a new exhaust with a CAT bypass. A lot of people run dual exhausts where one is legal and quiet and the other bypasses the Cats and is basically open header, the valve is controlled with a switch in the cab.
I also am looking at an aFe Cold air intake and a race chip tuning chip.

There is a guy about 500 miles north of me who tunes these vans and I will probably tow the van up there after all of the parts are installed.

The last thing is a Mishimoto cooler for the trans oil and the engine oil.

The van is already on a two-inch lift, 32-inch off-road tires, and has a TurboSmart blow-off valve. It is also straight piped. I will reinstall the muffler and resonator once I get the bypass set up, basically will have a stock-ish sounding one and with a flip of a switch, open headers!

There are so few people in the US modifying these van's that it is insanely hard to find info, so anything and everything will help!!

There's even less people modifying these vans in the UK I'd guess, AFAIK that engine isn't an option over here.

Is that engine not used in other vehicles that you could get the tuning info from, like injector numbers etc through similar forums for those? A

Really, less?? I thought there were more, interesting.

There are other engines but all I get is the OEM part number, I have no idea why I can't find the CC

Unfortunately that is a US spec engine and isn't available in Europe (may be in other vehicles, but not in the Transit - we just have a 2.0 Diesel)

I'd sell my grandmother for that engine in the UK!

I'd love one I'll pm my address for a crate engine!

There again we could just bolt in a Rolls Royce 6.75 turbo engine in it?

Anyone up for a challenge?

Cheers James
