N/S Driver shaft fitted position

Hiya, Can anyone tell me how far in does the drive shaft go in. Is it meant to be fitted flush with the gearbox. as in no space between the gearbox and fat bit on the inner driveshaft?

Ordinally the outer boot went, so I replaced the shaft. Sadly I didn't check how far in the upper end went into the gearbox. I know I'm a twat haha.

I fitted a new one but it would only go in so far, I heard metal hitting metal and thought that's it. Probably 8mm gap, not flush.

A month later inner boot split. I replaced it.

A month ish later inner boot has holes in it in 3 or 4 places. Theres trans fluid stains on the shaft now.

Now getting another shaft. so has anyone got a pic of the n/s side correctly fitted?
