Front tyre rubbing issue 2017 plate 4wd l3h3

Postby Nickmcd » Sat Jul 10, 2021 4:34 pm

Can anyone offer any advice. I have fitted 255 70 R16 AT tyres to my 2017 plate L3H3 van, dives perfectly other than when on full lock. On full lock the tyres rub on the inner wing/ chassis, 1 side more than the other. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

Thanks

Fit narrower tyres?

Go to a supermarket and pick up a good sized plastic chopping board, cut it in half and chamfer off the edges.

Clean up the wheel arches and stick the boards where the tyres rub with decent polyurethane sealant / adhesive.

Just an thought!

Need more context bud. What alloys and offset? Where exactly is the rubbing? pics?

I had rubbing on 245 70 16's / ET45 offset. Had to remove mud-flaps and cut the lower part of arch liner and also lightly hammer the pinch welds over. Likewise one side was worse than the other!

This is the area the tyre rubs on. It doesn’t make contact with the actual wheel arch so no grinding required there.

I've just had the seams inside the arches ground down, welded and sealed because there was grinding while braking and turning. Tyres are 255/60/18 (30" dia) on 4x4 H3L2.

However - while getting this done it became apparent that a wishbone bush is shot, which means the nearside wheel has shifted back a little which has increased contact.

Hmmm I've seen that area before somewhere on the USA Transit Forum. Are you running OEM or aftermarket wheels? What brand are your AT tyres? Falkens have a habit of rubbing more than BFGs.
5mm or 10mm spacers spring to mind as a quick fix but you would probably need to check wheel alignment. Theres a risk it might catch on the opposite side so bare that in mind.

To clarify mine only 'just' rubbed the area above the mud-flaps when making a left or right hand turn, the rest is preventative measures for more serious terrain.
