2018, 68 plate, died at motorway speed

Postby mike20dti » Fri Aug 13, 2021 7:30 pm

Wife's boss has a 68 plate rwd curtain side , not sure what engine.

Driver said ,sounded like something fell off then cut out,

Looking oil all over Bell housing, so leak at the back out of site ,74 k miles

Seems to turn over quick and sound like no compression,

Looking at the front I would say its chain drive, but Looking on here it sounds like it's belt drive.

If its belt then what could be throwing oil out the back high up, is it likely to be terminal.

Warranty expires end of this month.

If it’s a 2.0 l euro 6 there is a recall on belts snapping try getting onto Ford and check.

He's gonna try n get it booked in on Monday, I did look down the oil cap to see if I could see the cam, but the cross was obscuring, looks like the pics in the recall thread on here,

Is Etis still public access or log in(not used it in yrs), gonna try n get the reg over the weekend to check

Would I be right in saying that the wet belt is high pressure fuel belt, and the timing belt is standard dry belt?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction

If the belt has gone and has FSH that should be repaired under fords warranty. It amazes me that Fords did this with engines like this after what happened years ago with the mondeo and focus

Cheaper manufacturering costs I would expect that and the , warranty holdings footing the bill, then customers who only use dealer for servicing

Maybe but surely warranty cost and reliability is worth more

Iirc, warranty holdings is like an insurance thing, separate from the company, I could be mistaken tho.

Either way it's under the 2 thresholds of 3 yr/100k miles so should be covered, plus could be under the recall list, I'll be sure to get him to have the other 2 checked against the recall list, both 18 plates iirc,
1's a custom the other is the same, rwd curtain side.

I'm not up on them now been out the recovery game for a few yrs

All sorted under warranty, replaced the engine, not sure on the turbo. Spoke to a Ford service manager the other night after I recovered a van in, he said they are replacing turbos now aswell, as these give up soon after if not changed due to bearings failing from the belt contamination and partially blocking the oil feed on them.
iirc kept the original ancillary parts
