Mk8 buying guide?!

Postby LowSlungDub » Thu Sep 02, 2021 2:13 pm

I'm going to look at a Mk8 100ps 2.2 2014 with 130k on the clock this evening, is there a thread with common issues I should look out for and if not, can someone shed some light on the subject? It currently has the outside temp sensor faulty and the dash is displaying -40⁰C, is this an easy fix?

Do a search on the forum I’ve seen a post on this a bit ago about the temperature problem .

Was an absolute dog anyway, wood screw's holding arch covers on, no water in it at all, wiring loom was jointed with connector blocks, dents all over, 1" of filler on sliding door.

Bare in mind this was advertised as "perfect condition", it was definitely priced at "perfect condition" money.

been looking at these as well

and most have stupidly high mileage as well and want £12000 plus vat for them

iam steering to buy a brand new man van £30000 just for a basic model one but if i do go down this root it will be me last van i will ever buy, i do need tow really but as my guy is more yard based so he doesn't need a massive van just a run around for him

one of my customers got a great deal on a 17 plate euro 6 58000 miles and 2 years warranty with it £13000 plus vat from a ford dealer

Mods - maybe there is a need for 'sticky' threads on what to look for when buying buying RWD/FWD Mk8's? I have my own list......

If the mas air flow or air charge temperature is faulty or disconnected itll show -40 on dash board.
If sensors are ok it will settle back to corre t temperature..

dont want to lease mate its dead money and i carnt do anything to it either, no light bars or red flashing lights on the back

after looking about am steering towards a brand new man van but will cost me 30k plus vat but if i do go for it it will be the last van i will buy as will make sure it lasts me 20 years lol me mrk 6 is 21 years old and is solid and never had any major welding done nothing like the mrk 7 vans that people post here and mine can pull a 32 ton wagon without it pulling me arse end of.

i dont want a new van but this emmisions stuff going on in manchester is forcing me to :(

i also have a connect van and will have to replace that as well :(

My brother lease a van years ago and never again they picked up on any minor blemishes and change him for them he now buys them as he says at least it’s his and is not lost money he still has a van to trade in or sell and if work drops off he hasn’t got to pay every month he is in the position to buy outright.

I think to lease isn’t a good way to go personally. They will try and find anything to charge you extra. It may work for big companies but not a small company. It will still cost you £300ish plus vat per month and be over 4 years and you have nothing at the end of it. Yes it’s all taxable but it doesn’t matter how you buy it all works out roughly the same. Either try and get a good finance deal or bank loan is better I think. Or if you can buy outright because interest rates are rubbish at mo for money in the bank.
