DPF temperature sensor fault

Postby Discofever » Tue Sep 07, 2021 6:16 pm

Evening all, my Mk8 64 plate transit has a DPF temp sensor fault, the code says that a regen cannot be completed as the temperature is too low even tho it isn’t. I’ve had the codes read and it says sensor 13 but there’s three of them on the DPF, is it the front, middle or read sensor that’s packed up. The code when read is P244C:00-28

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you all

Sensor "13" means bank 1 sensor 3 the last one before the tail pipe, but i would check that the vaporizer isn't blown(can't remember what fuse- but normally sets a glow plug code if the fuse is gone) or partially restricted/nozzle blocked as this will also set a low temp code as not enough fuel is being injected into the exhaust to raise the temp for a regen.

Thank you for that, I must admit 3 of the glow plugs are showing open but 2 of them have been open for ages.

About 4 weeks ago I borrowed a code reader and in the middle of no where I did a manual regen, the temps went up to 550C, do you think I’ve cooked the third sensor as I’ve had trouble since then, where I keep getting the Engine Service Now flash up on the dash as it can’t do a regen as the temperature is too low, I’ve had it on a code reader today and the sensor only went up to 160C even tho I’d thrashed it down the A46.

I would check the vaporizer first, before replacing a $100ish sensor. The glowplugs in the engine bay won't cause any regen issues, the glowplug that is built into the vaporizer will though.
it should be about 0.9-1.20 ohms when tested. and there should be no restriction at the nozzle when pressure or vacuum is tested.

Nice one and thank you for your reply, what would the resistance be at say 20C for temperature sensor 13 so I can test that as well, I’m getting some DPF cleaner today as it’s at 200% full and it’ll need cleaning out before I can run it properly.

Right, so I’ve got underneath my van and tested all three temperature sensors, the front and middle are 5.026m ohms and the rear one is 220 ohms, looks like that could be the fault, the resistance is low

The new rear sensor is the same resistance so it can only be the vaporiser unit

Nice one thank you for the info, I don’t get the messages you have on my dash I get the engine service now come up, plugged in the diagnostic bit of kit and read all the fault codes, done a bit of digging around and the glow plug is deffo knackered as it’s open circuit, it should be between 0.9 & 1.2 ohms, been Ford where I am in Leicester and they’ve sold 28 vaporiser units since January, vans done 135k mikes.

My transit us showing dpf full, despite being only 3 weeks since last 250mile run.

Seems like it won't regen.

Garage want to do a forced regen next wed thinking there might be a software issue that needs an update??

Cheers James

Mine was full and wouldn’t do a forced regen it turned out to be faulty thermostat stopping it getting the required temperature .
