How often does a DPF regen happen?

I am aware that there is no exact frequency and it depends on all sorts of parameters. As a ball park on a long trip is it typically every hour, once a day, once a week?

Yes a piece of string.

Having read a bit I'm going to say that on a typical long run you can expect, as a rough rule, my van does it every 300 miles.

It would be better if it came up before it was needed to be like your phone and come up with do you want to install now it would be better if message came up do you want to regen now press ok if it comes on when you are just starting a run it would be ok but Sod’s law it comes on at the end .my mate has a 21 plate he’s done 20000 mls and it has never come on the Ford dealership that fitted a thermostat and a forced regen said upto between 4000 to 5000 mls mine is now on 1100mls since last on.

How do you know when it's on regen?

With the latest dash update it tells you dpf at limit drive to clean witch is good but with mine just having it and comeing on at 100 then 80 and 80 it also went into limp mode due to a faulty thermostat I was interested it what other vans are getting the message coming up

But does it not come on regularly to self clean itself. On many vehicles it does, and you don't know it's happening. I though this thread was saying that it tells you it's doing it?

The latest vans tell you that they're cleaning the dpf. Early vans didn't, you could tell that it was happening though because the engine note changed.

With the dash update it tells you to drive to clean dpf at limit and when done messages on screen disappears and amber warning light goes off mine didn’t before the update.and it’s a2015

I guess mine is same model as Dumper's. 2015 2.2 Euro 6 minibus. My experience of DPF's and regen goes back to Volvo D5's. I could just about tell when it was happening by the fuel consumption computer, and the footwell in the rear passenger seat got hot. Of course, when it didn't get the chance to regen you got the warning and had to find a dual carriageway. But I could never understand why the dash couldn't tell when it was happening.

A update from a 800 mile round trip to the Scottish Island of Mull when I got home the engine sounded like it was on a regen I suspect that when the van is doing it’s normal running regen it doesn’t come up on the dash that it is doing it and that the the drive to clean dpf at limit is when it really critical that you do .And this explains why a mate of mine with 2020 van and 20000 miles on the clock has never seen the message at all
