Advice on a mk8

Postby woolf » Fri Oct 08, 2021 8:47 pm

Can any mk8 owners give me the pros and cons on the mk8 as a daily driver…..
Sadly my son in law passed away with covid recently leaving my daughter and two small Children. To try to get her through this terrible time I’m thinking of selling my Audi A5 coupe and buying a mk8 6 seater crew cab so we can all
Be together on days out etc.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

You probably want a custom the mk8 and the custom are a different class of van even though they have a lot of similar parts my mk8 has had it’s problems for a low mileage van but been a L4 it’s not really a something to drive every day unless it was a work van I have not driven a custom but I would expect it to be a very good day to day drive .if you go for the new 2.0 eco blue make sure it’s had its wet belt recall the older 2.2 has been around long enough and seems ok some work mates of mine who have had both as company vans don’t like the 2.0 they say the 2.2 was better but if you intend keeping the van long term the euro 6 2.0 would be better with the way cities are going on emissions.

yep as above , the Custom is a much better daily drive than a Mk8. I have a 2018 Custom, which is my daily. I have a couple of 2020 Mk8's here, and although they drive well, the Custom is much better, just because of its size. Of course with the rear seats in a Custom you don't get a whole lot of load space, so that might be a big consideration for you.

Yeap custom would be better.

Also look at a VW transporter as a comparison?

We have a VW carravelle and it's a much better built vehicle than the transit. I'm sure the custom is better built than the mk8 but still.

I use a 6 seater full-fat mk8 as a daily driver.

No problems and wouldn't swap for a Custom. Too cramped in all three compartments for me.

I have, however, thought about buying a 6 seater Custom for the Mrs.
The L1 is actually shorter than the car she drives now.
What I really want is Tourneo Custom, but new ones aren't cheap.

I too have a mk8 5 seater campee use it for camping and work.

Works a treat!

Full camping set up 5 seats 4 berth.
But can all be removed in 5/10 mins to become combi / full van.
