Two ways
oil cooler - if like most transits this sits beside the oil filter ..and uses engines water coolant to cool the oil ..its a heat exchanger ...sometimes rots inside, so passes water into the oil or vice versa .... small unit about 6 x3 x3 inches

another way is if the head-gaskets gone

an indicator that you have water in the oil ..is rising oil level like your found ..also lots or creamy mayonnaise like substance in the rocker cover ........sometimes can be seen on the dipstick ....oil may turn murky chocolate brown

also can happen the other way and you get oil in the coolent - which can be seen in the tank.

all the best..mark

In a Euro5 engine, increased oil level can be caused by diesel being dumped in the oil, from failed DPF regenerations :(

I've never quite understood this explanation

Are we saying that diesel is forced through the injector in the DPF, then 'climbs' up the exhaust downpipe, through the exhaust rotor of the turbo and in to the engine via the exhaust valves, all while the engine is running?

Another, more likely, explanation is that the high pressure pump shaft seal has failed, permitting diesel to enter the timing chain case.

I don't pretend to understand the science of it happening, because I'm not a diesel expert, but happen it does, and only on engines with a DPF.
There are quite a few threads on here on the subject of oil becoming contaminated with diesel, so maybe you could enlighten us :?:

Do a search, there’s loads of info about it here. And don’t be drawn in by the ‘mechanic’

Here's a good explanation ..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzRR8BTVsyw

but still don't understand how the oil level raises ..unless the diesel needed to regenerate was being pumped into the cylinder and was waisted at the time it was meant to happen... because of short journeys.

I’ve not read up on it but I maybe wrong but I was under the understanding that as well as injecting fuel into the vaporiser it also injected more fuel into the cylinders .

A simpler explanation is leaking injectors.
If you have leaking injectors once the engine is turned off the pressure in the fuel rail causes them to drip diesel into the combustion chamber, it then runs down the bore and into the oil. If you stopm start drive a lot it can soon add up in the sump.
More worrying is that the diesel degrades the engine oil rapidly and you are in danger of a total loss on your engine.
The engine oil quality sensor should flag this up, any doubts get your oil changed and examined then ask a professional to pressure test your injectors
I always use fuel system cleaner in mine to keep injectors etc claen as possible

If exhaust gas temperatures don’t reach a high enough level due to frequent short journeys at low speed the ECU can place the engine into regeneration mode. During regen mode the ECU will conduct post injection, this is the process of injecting extra diesel into the combustion chamber after the main injection cycle. Post injection helps to increase exhaust gas temperatures however much of the injected diesel is left unburnt and filters its way down to the oil sump resulting in oil level rise.

thx ,

if i have leaking injectors are there any other symptoms ?

and why is car constantly regenerating, because of the high oil level ?

i will have dpf cleaned again and checked, also change oil and filter of course , i let you know , thx michael
