Ford Sync phone will not connect / link - one solution

Van is a 2015 2.2l Duratorq RWD

My phone suddenly stopped being linked to my van. No hands free, no podcasts, no warning. Tried all day to link it back using the Ford Sync Bluetooth connection but no joy. Very frustrating. Tried a second phone but just the same problem so concluded the problem was my van.
Parked it up for the night and tried again in the morning and all was good – linked first time and has stayed connected.
I’m guessing that like everything else electronic the problem was ‘just one of those’ and that letting the van fully shut down and restart sorted it.
