Leaking Rear Heater Pipes

Postby FLETCH75 » Wed Mar 30, 2022 6:54 pm

Hi
I have a ford tourneo custom 310 titanium 68 plate. I have a issue with coolant leaks at two places. First is at the rear directly under the heater connections and second is in the centre of the van. Both are slight drips , and my local mechanic has replaced the clips but still leaking. Anybody know if replacing the hoses would fix this as it is dripping from the joints/ rubber hose connections. Any advice is welcome thanks Andy

Whenever I've had trouble like that in the past ...I've smeared the hoses with contact adhesive (the stuff that looks like snot - comes in tins with a little brush in the cap) ..mating surfaces have to be clean and dry.

This may sound like a solution that has future trouble ./..but you wont have any trouble, the hoses will only be marginally harder to get off again .

I came up with this idea after working on washing machines ... all had this on the hoses from new .having seen this .i tried and tested and works. also prevents alloy housing hose couplings corroding.

But the real problem i think ..is that the clips have been over-tightened and have cut into your hoses, or the pipes have not been cleaned up enough. you also need to clean the inside of the hoses of build of scale.

Note: also one clip appear to be in the wrong place, mis-positioned on the pipe , too far from the end

or worse case scenario - you could have excessive pressure in the system ! - that could be head gasket failure , pressure cap failure ..or fans not coming on .

another cause of hose leaks is too strong a mixture of antifreeze
another cause is cheap after market hoses with too large an inside diameter, or hoses generally old and have become soft, stretched out of shape and basically no good anymore.

Hello,

did you solve the problem with leaks? I also have a leak in my 2016 Tourneo custom 2.0

I attached the picture below... it is located underneath rear sliding doors... i changed rubber hoses and clips, but the leak is still there...

Maybe the metal hose that connects to the rubber hose is cracked...

Any ideas anyone?

Best regards, J

The original constant tension clips corrode and snap.

Ford used lots of sections of pipe to make up the runs so lots of joints to potentially leak.
Once a joint leaks, it is tricky to get it to seal again!

On my latest leak, Ive fitted new spring clips, jubilee clips, a new section of pipe and still a small drip :x

I will persevere and get it sealed somehow.

Clean joints, a brush of contact adhesive and the drip is cured! Nice tip.

Thanks.
