100ps vs 170ps

Postby Tim321 » Tue Apr 12, 2022 9:32 am

Are there any mechanical or component differences between a 100ps van and a 170ps van or is it just electronic tuning settings? Could I buy a 100ps van and get it tuned to perform like a 170ps factory spec van? Thanks, Tim.

I don't know for sure, but I very much doubt they are mechanically identical. Lots of the stuff needed to make 170ps won't be needed for 100ps, e.g., VNT turbo and (large) intercooler, and so I'm guessing would be omitted in the first instance to save cost. Often when the same block has vastly different power outputs things like the turbo, fuel injection system and intercooler are lower rated.

But I'll also be interested to hear if anyone thinks differently.

Don't think the 105 and the 170 are the same, but that's true with the 130 and 170. You can change the setting with FORSCan as the ECU already has the 170 program in.

Interesting. I wonder if you can do the same with the older 2.2, as the 125 engine I currently have is mechanically identical to the 155. I previously had the 155, and it's so much better than the 125.

Is that right. So if you wanted the extra power there is no need for a map or tune just change the settings in forscan
