Disconnect battery for airbag removal?

Postby logic » Tue Jun 07, 2022 11:48 am

Hi Folks,

I've a new steering wheel with cruise control I'm hoping to get working, I've seen a youtube online saying if concerned then disconnect the battery and let the van discharge before disconnecting the airbag which sounds sensible. After the battery is reconnected are there any issue's getting back to normal, like stereo code, electric window programming etc.? I don't have any codes or paperwork. It's the 'poor man spec.' van so nothing fancy in it. Or is it safe to leave the battery connected?

Thanks.

It should be straightforward, I don't believe that the integrated radios are coded, but it may be that you need to re-learn the windows, which is quite easy to do :)

I went ahead and disconnected the battery, I realised it would likely trigger the airbag light potentially causing further issue's so went the safe way.

Yes it was straightforward from there, wheel was easy to swap. I've wrote a few cruise control changes with Forscan but it fails in the PCM module change, it's the first time I've used Forscan so is there something obvious I may be missing? The other writes were a success (seems to be quite a few modules with cruise control to enable).

Thanks

Well time has flown by....

I've finally managed to get the cruise control working. I was using the VLinker FD which I found updated firmware, after applying this all changes in the PCM module worked with the cruise control and ASL now working fine.
